How a Reclaim heat pump works

A heat pump uses electricity to move heat from the surrounding air into stored water. The tank keeps that heated water ready for showers, washing and everyday use.

Reclaim offers different residential product families. Its CO₂ split systems use a separate heat pump and storage tank. Its ECO R290 range uses an integrated design. Controls, installation requirements and available tank options depend on the product selected.

Choose the system around your home

We start with how you use hot water: morning and evening demand, shower habits, baths, visitors and any planned changes at home. Tank capacity is only part of the decision. Recovery time, climate, available space and the heating schedule also matter.

The site review considers the existing water heater, pipework, electrical supply, access, drainage and suitable airflow around the equipment. For a split system, we also assess where the tank and outdoor heat pump can go. The proposed model and installation scope will be set out in your quote.

Plan hot water alongside solar and your electricity tariff

Reclaim controllers offer scheduling options, with additional control features depending on the model and controller. We can review when the system heats against your solar generation and electricity plan.

Daytime heating may use some available solar production. A lower-cost tariff window may be useful at other times. The right settings depend on household demand and the electricity plan, and must retain the water-heating cycles required by the manufacturer. We check any proposed connection to a home energy management system before including it in the design.

A clear installation scope

Your quote should make the equipment, electrical work, plumbing work, removal of the old unit and any site-specific extras clear. Vortex handles the electrical scope and coordinates the required appropriately licensed trades for plumbing and any gas disconnection.

At handover, we explain the selected operating settings, routine care and where to find the manufacturer’s instructions. We also identify the product warranty documents that apply to your quoted equipment.

Reclaim hot water questions

Do I need solar panels for a heat pump?

No. A heat pump runs on electricity and does not require rooftop solar. If you have solar, we can review whether the heating schedule can make better use of the energy you produce.

Can it replace my gas hot water system?

It may be an option. We assess the existing equipment, water connections, electrical supply and a suitable installation location. Any gas work must be included in the scope and completed by an appropriately licensed trade.

Which Reclaim model and tank size do I need?

That depends on your hot water demand and site. We review these first, then confirm the proposed product family, tank and controls. We do not select a tank solely from the number of people in the home.

How much will I save?

There is no single saving that applies to every home. We need to consider your current system, hot water use, energy prices, solar generation and proposed settings. Any estimate should make those assumptions clear.

Will it qualify for rebates or incentives?

Eligibility needs to be checked for your household, property, existing system and exact product before you proceed. Your quote should identify any incentive included and the conditions that apply. Avoid relying on a headline rebate amount when comparing quotes.

Start with a hot water review

Tell Simon your suburb, what hot water system you have now and whether you prefer a remote review or a site visit. Photos of the existing unit, its label, the surrounding space and your switchboard help us understand the job. A recent energy bill can help with the running-cost discussion.
